Artist Statement.

As an artist deeply inspired by globetrotting journeys and the boundless Australian skies of my youth, my abstract acrylic works are a canvas of emotions and experiences. A selection of works evolved over the last 3 years, the collection is a series of originals on paper, new, large scale acrylics and Limited Edition prints.

Driven by a love for the dramatic, with a fixation on colour and texture, the interplay of bold colours and more subtle shades are memories of places seen, ebbing between BOLD and NOT SO BOLD discoveries. Using acrylics affords the luxury of layering colour on colour and the ability to bring bold strokes of texture to the surface.

With a continual influence derived by a constant desire to travel, seek adventure and relish in the great outdoors, colour and texture are drawn from memories of landscapes travelled through, meals eaten and spaces and places discovered, capturing the vastness of the world and vibrancy of life. Each time I pick up a paint brush, I lose myself in the process, striving to create a piece of work that brings colour and life to the space it will ultimately sit within. Artwork that I hope invites the viewer to embark on a visual odyssey, celebrating the spirit of exploration.

If you like what you see, but it's already sold, or you've a larger wall to fill, a selection of smaller works are available as Limited Edition prints, with the ability to scale up to 840 x 1000 with print runs limited to 5. Commissions are also taken. And if the wall is not enough and a splash of colour is needed on the floor, I also work alongside Totzke Ltd to produce fairtrade, hand crafted rugs, shipped all over the world.

About.

Growing up in small town Australia afforded the delights to roam freely; jumping into river adventures, running bare foot under sprinklers, explorations into the bush and spending as much time as humanly possible in the great outdoors. When travelling home I still succumb to the wide-open skies, smells of the sea, rustle of the dense bush and delights of the hills and wine regions. Those big open skies, bleached summer days and distinctly Australian sounds and smells are some of the parts of my Australian home I miss most.

With a continued desire to travel and see the world, I jump on planes, in cars, on trains, or boats, by foot, or pedal and escape the vibrancy of the big smoke city in search of new skies, different smells, cacophonies of sound, wondrous new sights and friends. Any opportunity to find a new adventure and beat a path less travelled is inspiration for the life and painting.

My appetite for painting, was reignited in 2020 - a year full of things lost and discoveries found, at a time when the vibrancy of cities, the depth and wonder of the great outdoors and the colour and wonder of markets, people and life, where confined to memories. Those adventures are back on track and the flavour of new sights continues to inspire and influence my art. Bringing colour, bold strokes and texture to paper, linen or canvas, building on lessons learnt.

Alongside my fellow found artists, it’s time to share some of the colour, texture and adventure personified through my paint brush!
